The Garden of Alfabia

3a.jpgEven though the Mallorcan landscape is relatively dry the gardens of Alfabia are green and bushy. They have been able to create this garden because the ground water level in the area was high enough so that they could pump water up to the surface. The gardens were probably planted by Benhabel who was a Muslim governor in Inca in the 1200´s. The garden is located by a lake and there is also a beautiful building. In the garden you will find ponds, wells and tropical plants. There are many different kinds of trees such as maples, cypresses, aspen, bread-tree, walnut tree and magnolia. In the English garden, which wasn’t planted until the 1800´s, there are several beautiful ponds with water lilies. You can also see grapevines, boxwood and dahlias.
